On March 2nd, the Jiangsu Province Selection Competition for the 2024 National Vocational College Skills Competition (Vocational Group) English Speaking Contest came to a successful conclusion at our college. Ten representative teams of teachers and students, including the top three in the group of English major and the top seven in the of non-English major group of the 2024 Jiangsu Vocational College Skills Competition (Vocational College Group) English Speaking Contest, gathered at JMI to compete and showcase their English skills and professional style. Professor Li Xiaoxiang, the leader of the expert group for the English Speaking Contest of Jiangsu Vocational College Skills Competition and a doctoral supervisor at Southeast University, led a team of expert judges to provide guidance.
This selection competition is divided into four sections based on the new national competition system: Chinese Story, Interview,Presentation, and Debate. Among them, Interview and Debate have adopted the innovative competition method with both teachers and students involved in the contest. In other words, teachers and students participated in the competition on the same stage and worked together. During the contest, the contestants vividly told Chinese stories, smoothly communicated in the workplace, confidently described the charts, and engaged in intense debates. With fluent oral expression, clear logical thinking, and flexible adaptability, they demonstrated excellent professional abilities and qualities.
After the competition, Professor Zhu Hongqing from the expert group gave a detailed evaluation of the contestants' performance in the four stages of the event, providing excellent suggestions on the standardization of pronunciation, accuracy of language expression, and rigor of debate thinking.
The successful holding of this selection competition fully embodies the teaching philosophy of promoting teaching, learning, innovation, and construction through competitions, and demonstrates the excellent English language application ability and comprehensive professional competence of teachers and students in vocational colleges in Jiangsu Province.
